Both Laurent and his wife Karen were educated in wine-making from college and from a lifetime in the vineyards. Laurent is the fifth generation to farm these red and white vineyards in the Côte de Beaune. Their home and winery is located in Monthélie, a small, often overlooked commune nestled between Volnay (famous for reds) and Meursault (famous for whites), and they oversee grapes grown in all three areas (plus a few others nearby). In fact, their tiny plots totaling nearly 15 hectares of vines cover over 20 different appellations. These communes are well known for making softer wines, but Laurent believes the wines can be better if firmer. He notes that, "I make slightly more structured wines with ageing potential," and this results in wines which are naturally appealing young, but are best if given a few years to fully mature.
