Brothers Romaric and Romuald Boursot are the fifteenth generation (fifteenth!) of Boursot family winemakers producing tiny quantities of wonderful red wines from their vineyards and home in the center of Chambolle-Musigny. Dating back to 1550, the family has farmed four hectares of Chambolle vineyards, and have more recently added grapes from other excellent nearby Côte de Nuits vineyards in Gevrey-Chambertin, Vosne-Romanée and Vougeot. With this lineage, the brothers feel that while continually introducing modern techniques and tools, it is vital to respect and use the know-how passed down by their ancestors. This combination results in traditional organic viticulture (organic composting, no herbicides), manual picking/sorting, no filtering/fining, and gravity-propelled bottle-filling, but with newer touches like fermenting some juice in clay amphorae (historically-inspired but recently reintroduced 300-liter aging jars) and the use of very minimal sulfur. Their wines, typically darker than average, red-fruit dominated and flora-scented (not shy about the oak here), are best if given a chance to age a bit.
With their 500th anniversary looming, Romaric and Romuald have already begun to put aside some of their best wines; we hope to be around to join in the celebration!
