Château d’Etroyes

The first vines were planted in the beautiful, rich countryside surrounding the Chateau d’Etroyes back in 1720. Over the next three centuries, this estate was continuously farmed by one family. But in 2018, a group of wine enthusiasts that have a great deal of experience with vineyards and wineries, purchased the estate.

Their intention? They wished to maintain continuity with the family’s work and history, but pursue the goal of creating even higher quality wines, and tangible changes towards that goal have already been made. First, they expressed their commitment to a sustainable viticulture process and an environmentally friendly approach by undertaking an HVE (High Environmental Value) certification process. Through these practices they hope to restore the organic activity of the soil, in order to stimulate greater interaction between the soil and the plant. Further, they employ careful selection techniques both in the vineyards and at the sorting table, meticulously curating each harvest. The results are already apparent as they produce early-drinking wines which feature fruit-filled aromas and flavors, and are round with soft tannins - exactly the kind of wines for which Mercurey is justifiably famous.
